Races of the Week, Part I

Last week, I was out of town and neglected to post any selections. The Form provides charts for last week's races, the Barbara Fritchie Handicap and the Sam F. Davis Stakes. Two weeks ago, Lovely Isle finished second in Las Virgenes Stakes, paying $4.80 to place and $3.40 to show. Check It Twice was scratched from the Risen Star Stakes. This week, the Daily Racing Form's races of the week are the San Luis Obispo Handicap today at Santa Anita and the Fountain of Youth Stakes tomorrow at Gulfstream. Equibase's race of the week is the Tampa Bay Breeders' Cup Stakes today at Tampa Bay Downs.

In the San Luis Obispo, I'll bet Obrigado, who is coming off of a bullet work. There's no early speed in this race, and Obrigado might be able to get out to an early lead. The Form provides free past performances.

I'll bet Cool Coal Man in the Fountain of Youth. He's coming off of a bullet work, and the inside post should help him with a short run to the first turn. The Form provides free past performances.

Cosmonaut looks like a deserving favorite in the Tampa Bay Breeders' Cup. There's not much early speed to challenge him, and his Beyer figures are consistently in the triple digits. Equibase provides free past performances.

Races of the Week

Last week, A.P. Arrow couldn't quite catch Spring at Last in the Donn Handicap. He fisnised second, paying $4.40 to place and $3.80 to show. Monterey Jazz won the Strub Stakes, paying $13.60 to win, $4.40 to place, and $3.60 to show. So far this year, a flat $2 win bet on my selections has yielded a net profit of $17.00 on total wagers of $18.00. This week, the Daily Racing Form's races of the week are the Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds and Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita.

I'll bet Lovely Isle in Las Virgenes. There's not much early speed in this race, and Lovely Isle may be able to get in front early. She's never been a mile before, but her Tomlinson rating indicates that she should like it. The Form provides free past performances.

In the Risen Star, I'll bet Check It Twice, who should benefit from the rail post, appears to like the distance, and is coming off of two bullet works. The Form provides free past performances.

Last week, I was 1 for 2. Gottcha Gold finished ninth in the Sunshine Millions Classic. Ginger Punch won the Sunshine Millions Distaff, paying $2.60 to win, $2.40 to place, and $2.10 to show. This week, the Daily Racing Form's races of the week are the Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park and the Strub Stakes at Santa Anita.

I'll bet A.P. Arrow in the Donn. Fairbanks and morning-line favorite Daaher will likely set a fast pace. A.P. Arrow can win coming from off the pace. The Form provides free past performances.

In the Strub, I'll bet Monterrey Jazz, who is coming off of a bullet work, has won 3 of his last 4, and looks like he could steal this race from the front end.
